Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble, or hardship, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword??
Romans 8:35
~For Israel~
His goodness and mercy and the power of the cross! That is the best way to describe the past month here. Majority of students in this area have been on a break which is the transition between one academic year to another. Lots of changes, transitions, and leaps of faith for myself as well as some families, students, teachers, and close friends that I am closely connected with. Through it all, God has shown His goodness and provision.
DURING THE BREAK FROM SCHOOL
In the picture above, you can see beautiful faces from a youth gathering we were able to have one weekend at Mama Florence’s church. I was amazed and encouraged by the hearts of these young students that simple love Jesus! They all face various challenges day to day, but still, have the passion and desire to walk through rain, mud, and darkness to gather for a youth program! Our first night, the power went off due to rain, so we used a coal pot to gather around for worship and praises. It was a beautiful and sweet time together. The following days were filled with small group Bible study, discussions, and fun games! We ended everything with a church service completely led by this group. I am excited how The Lord will continue to use and these youth as they continue to be poured into.
A few months ago, a group from Ho came to host a children’s outreach in a remote community called Detokope. Since then, Mama Florence, myself, and a few others have been making follow up visits to this community. There is a heavy sense of spiritual darkness here from all the idol worship and Fetish practices. But, through the provision of God, we have been able to establish friendship with the chief and elders. After several meetings, and sharing of each other’s goals for the community, they granted us the invitation to be coming children’s programs. At first, we were concerned there would not be a consistent group to commit to come for this task, but The Lord provided yet again! 2 youth and a woman from the Mama Florence’s church have expressed their interest to go and meet with the children on alternate Saturday mornings. This is a huge opportunity for a breakthrough in this community!
We took the time during the break to do some cleaning, organizing, and planning for Sustaining Love Kids program. We have various resource that have made it here from US via barrels, and this makes program more engaging for the students that attend. The school where we have our program has been growing, so it has been a continued partnership that has benefited both the school and Sustaining Love Kids! We are planning towards a joined Christmas program in December which will be an outreach for the community as well as a celebration for our students.
One of the most difficult parts of the journey The Lord has me on here is circumstances that I feel completely helpless and heartbroken. This precious baby was born 2 months too soon, and due to overcrowded rooms, lack of medical resources, education, (and to be honest compassion), this child was sent away from the hospital after just a few days of hospital care. At first, my flesh was quick to become upset with the medical staff. But The Lord spoke. He let me know that this child is His. For now, she is still with us on this earth. No matter how bleak the circumstances seem, I trust that His plan and will is better than what I can imagine. Her mother is a young teenage Muslim girl that also suffered challenges after giving birth. Through all of this, God provided opportunities to show love, care, and support for their physical needs which naturally opened doors for prayer and mentioning Christ to the whole family. Trusting in Him for what is to come from all of this.
It is easy to be tempted with the feelings of loneliness here as a single lady. BUT God has provided sweet fellowship with other ladies that are my sisters in Christ here. There are various cultural and language barriers that come with our relationship, BUT it does not affect our closeness through Christ’s love for one another. I am so grateful for moments such as this picture to gather in sweet fellowship at the beachside for worship songs, volleyball, and dipping our feet in the ocean (although most times dirty!).
As I close this newsletter, I would like to share with you all that once you read this, I will most likely be in South Asia!! God has provided a return trip for me to go and spend several weeks in the place where this journey to The Nations first began back in 2014. This time, I will be joined by a few others who have also been doing ministry in Ghana, two guys from the US, and also accompanied by one of my national friends in South Asia. The plan is to move around to the various areas I have connections and relationships with brothers and sisters in Christ. We pray that we can be of an encouragement and light of Christ as we move around. If you would like to know more, please feel free to reach out by email or messenger. Thank you all for continued partnership for Christ! I look forward to updating you all on God’s continued provision and goodness all in all.
